Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC) is the federally-designated organ procurement organization covering the greater Washington, DC, metro area. DeShawn's testimony about waiting for a donor for her mother Sheila is part of the WRTC video project. The video project explains how lives are affected by donor generosity.

The Washington, DC area is home to many extraordinary women. ABC 7 News Working Women Project, and ABC 7 news reporter Alison Starling, regularly select and honor local working women making a difference in the lives of other people. DeShawn was honored as one of ABC 7 News' Working Women in July 2008.


Radio: Bernie McCain Talks To Founder of “Sheila’s Saving a Life Campaign”

DeShawn L. McMillan and John Ogden joined Bernie McCain to talk about the 2010 Run/Walk for Life 5k at Rock Creek Park, Sunday June 13. DeShawn lost her mother, Sheila Ann Reddick, while Sheila was waiting for a transplant. DeShawn founded “Sheila’s Saving a Life Campaign” to raise awareness for the need of organ donors. DeShawn teamed up with John Ogden, Senior Public Affairs Associate for the Washington Regional Transplant Community, a non-profit that facilitates and promotes awareness for organ and tissue donation in the DC metro area.
